LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1) Describe the functions performed by sterile processing personnel during environmental and chemical high-level disinfection.
2) Outline the standards required for providing a high-quality environmental and high-level disinfection process.
3) Identify employee health and safety considerations associated with using environmental and high-level disinfectants.
4) Understand the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as it relates to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and employee safety and health.
5) Describe the procedures that sterile processing personnel must follow and the precautions they must observe when preparing and using disinfectants in the sterile processing department (SPD).
6) Discuss the high-level disinfection processes used for processing devices such as flexible gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopes and ultrasound probes.
